Is There a 'Major Conspiracy' Behind the Sabarimala Gold Theft? BJP Demands Central Agency Investigation

Synopsis

The ongoing Sabarimala gold theft case has escalated as Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar claims it’s part of a well-planned conspiracy. He insists on a central agency probe, stating that political figures may be involved, which raises significant concerns about accountability and transparency in the state governance.

Key Takeaways

  • Allegation of a significant conspiracy behind the Sabarimala gold theft.
  • Call for a central agency investigation to uncover political links.
  • Public skepticism towards government claims of limited involvement.
  • Ongoing debates about financial accountability in Kerala's governance.
  • Political implications on the upcoming local body elections.

Thrissur, Dec 2 (NationPress) The President of Kerala BJP, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, asserted on Tuesday that a "major and intricately planned conspiracy" is behind the Sabarimala gold theft, emphasizing that only an investigation by a central agency can reveal the alleged political connections involved in this case.

Addressing the media, he mentioned that the public remains "doubtful" about the government's claim that the crime involved merely two individuals, Unnikrishnan Potti and N. Vasu.

"There is widespread disbelief that these two acted alone. Political figures are linked to the Sabarimala gold theft, and the Pinarayi Vijayan government will do everything possible to protect them. Only a central agency can identify the true offenders," Chandrasekhar stated, noting that attempts to minimize the case have diminished public confidence in the state administration.

This statement coincides with his request for a CBI investigation, which he has filed in a petition to the Kerala High Court, set to be reviewed in the near future.

Chandrasekhar was present in Kerala's cultural hub as part of his campaign for the upcoming local body elections scheduled for December 9 and 11.

He further claimed that the case against suspended Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was part of a larger scheme to distract the public from pressing development issues.

"The charge against Rahul should have been pursued three months ago. Why is it being addressed now? This timing clearly serves a political agenda," he remarked.

On the ongoing debate regarding the KIIFB Masala Bond, Chandrasekhar criticized the state government for failing to provide essential answers.

"What prompted them to go to London for fundraising? Why not borrow from an Indian bank? Why was RBI approval not sought? The government has not offered a single coherent explanation," he stated.

He dismissed the ruling party's assertion that the Enforcement Directorate's notice regarding the Masala Bond was politically motivated and timed for the elections.

"Claiming that the ED notice is a political maneuver is merely another diversion tactic. The central government cannot influence the pace of investigative actions. When financial misconduct is revealed, labeling it political is, in itself, a political maneuver," he articulated.

Chandrasekhar concluded that both the Sabarimala gold theft and the KIIFB bond issue highlight deeper problems of accountability and transparency that the state government can no longer ignore.

Point of View

It will be essential to monitor how these allegations influence public perception and the upcoming local body elections.
