Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 27 (NationPress) The Sabarimala gold theft is set to become a significant topic in the upcoming elections, with allegations of a CPI-M conspiracy driving the narrative, stated Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan on Thursday.
As of now, six individuals have been arrested by the SIT appointed by the Kerala High Court. Satheesan accused the ruling party of providing protection to those implicated in the theft.
"The CPI-M is reluctant to take action as the accused might reveal connections to high-ranking party officials if interrogated," Satheesan remarked.
Furthermore, he expressed confidence that the upcoming local body elections would signal a significant revival for the United Democratic Front (UDF).
"This election will mark a robust comeback for the UDF across Kerala. We are mobilizing as 'Team UDF' with comprehensive statewide preparations, and the populace is ready for change," he affirmed.
Satheesan emphasized that the campaign would concentrate on highlighting the government's shortcomings while showcasing the UDF's pledges through a well-structured manifesto and a charge sheet against the ruling party.
He claimed that the gold theft was not merely an isolated incident but rather the outcome of a politically sanctioned scheme.
Additionally, Satheesan alleged that former Devaswom Minister Kadakampally Surendran was aware of the stolen gold being smuggled out of the shrine.
He further accused Surendran of having direct connections with the accused Unnikrishnan Potty during the years 2018-19.
"We will present substantial evidence. More names will emerge, which is why the CPI(M) is concealing the perpetrators," he asserted.
According to Satheesan, the initial theft went largely unnoticed by the public and media, emboldening the criminals to attempt it again.
"However, insiders were well aware of the complete details. The court has now validated what the opposition has been stating," he noted.
He insisted that those responsible for the removal of the temple's sanctum door, frames, and guardian sculptures must face legal consequences.
"The procession to jail has already commenced. The people of Kerala will render their verdict in this election," Satheesan proclaimed.
In conclusion, he stated that the UDF would ensure accountability across all levels if they are elected to power, aiming to restore public confidence in temple governance and administration.
