Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 23 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, V. D. Satheesan, accused two high-ranking IPS officers in the state of intentionally hindering the investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the Sabarimala gold theft case.
Satheesan asserted that the SIT's inquiry, which was anticipated to achieve significant breakthroughs, has now stalled.
He indicated that this stagnation is not attributed to insufficient evidence or procedural challenges, but rather due to “active interference” from senior police officials.
“For a while, the SIT's investigation has faced a deadlock. Two senior IPS officers are doing everything in their power to undermine the inquiry,” he claimed.
The Opposition leader noted that the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) has shown restraint thus far in the interest of the public but cautioned that their patience is dwindling.
“At this juncture, I want to warn these officers to cease such conduct. If they do not change their behavior, we will be compelled to publicly identify them,” Satheesan emphasized, stating that this matter transcends internal administrative issues to touch on public accountability.
He accused the Pinarayi Vijayan government of protecting influential figures and not ensuring a transparent and independent investigation into the alleged gold smuggling and theft associated with Sabarimala offerings.
Satheesan reiterated the Opposition's persistent claim that this case has serious implications, involving failures at multiple levels, and demanded that the investigation proceed without undue pressure or manipulation.
The case has garnered political sensitivity, with the Opposition consistently alleging systemic failures and intentional attempts to impede the investigation.
Satheesan commented that the government's silence regarding serious allegations against senior police officers only fuels public distrust.
“If the government has nothing to conceal, it should ensure that the SIT operates freely and transparently,” he remarked.
He made it clear that the UDF would escalate its campaign if the investigation remains stalled.
