Thiruvananthapuram, December 5 (NationPress) - With merely four days remaining until the local body elections, the BJP has made grave accusations regarding extensive corruption within the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation’s kitchen bin distribution initiative. They assert that the ruling CPI(M) administration has manipulated data, ignored tender regulations, and obstructed ensuing investigations.
BJP representatives claim that the civic body only distributed approximately 5,000 kitchen bins, despite official documents later stating that 60,000 bins were provided under this scheme.
This significant inflation of figures suggests corruption amounting to several crores, they allege.
“The gap in numbers is far too substantial to merely be a clerical mistake. It is an intentional act aimed at misappropriating public funds,” the leaders asserted.
The BJP also criticized the decision to award the project tender to a company based in Coimbatore.
They accused the firm of securing the contract by circumventing eligibility requirements, quality checks, and financial standards.
“Every guideline was disregarded to benefit a particular company. This represents a classic instance of tender manipulation,” the BJP accused.
Furthermore, the party claimed that the Corporation created a cover-up by assigning the internal investigation to officials with direct links to the irregularities.
Consequently, they asserted, even the inquiry by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau was misdirected, hindering a transparent investigation.
“The investigation was compromised from its inception,” stated the BJP leaders.
Intensifying their accusations, the BJP also alleged that senior CPI(M) officials received kickbacks amounting to crores through various road construction projects in the city.
They claimed that numerous projects were only completed on paper, while contractors and political intermediaries divided the profits.
“This is not an isolated case. It is part of a broader pattern of corruption within the Corporation,” they asserted.
The party’s leadership, including state BJP president Rajeev Chandrasekhar, warned that they would soon unveil documentary evidence, including financial statements and internal communications, to back their claims.
“The residents of Thiruvananthapuram deserve to understand the full scope of this scam. We will disclose everything in the upcoming days,” they stated.
Within the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, the BJP serves as the principal opposition with 35 out of 100 wards, while the Congress-led UDF holds just 10 seats, and the ruling CPM-led Left governs with 51 seats.
