Kerala’s CM Vijayan Denies Rs 700 Crore Scam Allegations, Calls Claims ‘Groundless’
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Palakkad, March 28 (NationPress) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan categorically dismissed the accusations of a Rs 700 crore corruption scheme related to the Cooperative Department's proposed common software initiative, labeling the Opposition's claims as politically driven and lacking any factual basis.
He further discredited suggestions of a secret agreement between the CPI(M) and the SDPI, describing them as “intentional disinformation.”
During a press conference in Palakkad, the Chief Minister responded to queries posed by senior Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala, asserting that his rival was “engaged in spreading untruths” as the election approaches.
“There is a distinct effort to fabricate corruption narratives by manipulating facts. Addressing such accusations only serves to further their agenda,” Vijayan remarked.
On the subject of the cooperative software project, Vijayan clarified that the tender process for establishing a unified digital platform for cooperative societies was finalized as early as 2021.
He mentioned that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which was initially involved, unilaterally withdrew in 2024.
“All procedures were executed transparently and in accordance with regulations,” he affirmed, rejecting any implications of misconduct.
Politically, the Chief Minister dismissed the allegations of a coalition between the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the SDPI, asserting that the Opposition was attempting to corner the ruling front through unfounded propaganda.
“The public will reject such narratives. They will base their decisions on their real-life experiences,” he expressed confidence in a decisive LDF win in Palakkad, where he claimed the front’s candidate enjoys robust public backing.
Vijayan took the opportunity to highlight the government’s achievements in the development sector, particularly regarding agriculture.
He noted a consistent rise in paddy procurement, increased financial support for farmers, and gradual enhancements in support prices.
“From 2016 to 2026, Kerala has experienced remarkable agricultural growth, with farmers’ incomes soaring by nearly 50 percent,” he stated, countering the Opposition’s critiques with a focus on governance outcomes.
Palakkad is crucial for the CPI-M this election, given the dissent within the party with numerous local and former party legislators breaking away.
P.K. Sasi is contesting as a Congress-supported candidate from Ottapalam, while A. Suresh, who was a personal assistant to V.S. Achuthanandan, is running as a Congress candidate from Malampuzha.
Additionally, a fierce competition is underway in Thrithala, where sitting State Local Self Government Minister M.B. Rajesh faces off against former two-time legislator V.T. Balram.
In Palakkad, a high-profile contest has emerged with Congress fielding popular actor Ramesh Pisharody.
