Kerala CM Vijayan Defends Against BJP Alliance Allegations, Questions LoP Satheesan's RSS Ties
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, March 26 (NationPress) As the political climate heats up ahead of the Assembly elections, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has forcefully responded to the Congress's allegations claiming that his party has a hidden alliance with the BJP in certain districts.
The accusations have been consistently voiced by Leader of the Opposition V. D. Satheesan, supported by prominent Congress figures such as party President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, asserting that the CPI-M-led LDF and the BJP are engaged in a "secret agreement" in approximately 10 Assembly constituencies across Kerala.
Through a pointed Facebook post accompanied by images, Vijayan redirected attention to Satheesan's history, questioning his supposed affiliations with the RSS.
The Chief Minister challenged Satheesan to explain his involvement in an RSS-hosted event celebrating the birth centenary of M.S. Golwalkar in Paravur in 2006, where he reportedly lit a ceremonial lamp after paying respects to Golwalkar's portrait.
Vijayan accused Satheesan of dodging inquiries regarding this incident by shifting focus to a separate event from 2013 whenever the 2006 occurrence is mentioned.
He emphasized that the citizens of secular Kerala deserve to hear Satheesan's account regarding his participation in honoring Golwalkar, who was the second Sarsanghchalak of the RSS and held the position for an extensive duration.
Pointing out the significance of timing, Vijayan noted that the event took place in February 2006 at Manakkapady School in Paravur, just before the Assembly elections, raising questions about its political implications.
He also referenced a 2022 statement by the state President of the Hindu Aikya Vedi, alleging that Satheesan had solicited RSS support during the 2001 and 2006 Assembly elections.
Vijayan remarked that Satheesan has not yet provided a definitive answer to these allegations.
The Chief Minister concluded by stating it would be understandable for individuals to speculate that the Golwalkar event aimed to gain RSS support, demanding clarification from Satheesan regarding the "deal" that occurred in Paravur in 2006.
