Thiruvananthapuram, December 10 (NationPress) – In a significant escalation of the political standoff with Kerala's Left Democratic Front (LDF) government, the Leader of Opposition, V.D. Satheesan, has publicly invited Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to engage in a debate on the issues raised by the CM at a location and time of his choosing.
In a robust statement, Satheesan expressed his readiness to confront all queries posed by the Chief Minister in a public forum.
“You are free to choose the venue and the date. I anticipate your acceptance of my challenge,” he stated, emphasizing his assurance in addressing the numerous allegations and counter-allegations openly.
Satheesan pointed out that two individuals are currently incarcerated due to the theft of valuable items, including gold-plated structures and guardian deity sculptures, from the sanctum sanctorum of the Sabarimala temple.
He accused the current government of protecting those involved in these crimes, noting the boldness with which the CPI-M leadership continues to criticize the Congress and the UDF, despite these serious issues.
In response to the Chief Minister’s comments regarding several sexual assault allegations against a Congress MLA, Satheesan maintained that the Congress in Kerala has taken remarkable steps by responding decisively.
Conversely, he highlighted that the Chief Minister has seemingly overlooked the misconduct allegations against two ministers in his initial Cabinet, who continue to receive public support from him.
The Leader of Opposition also raised serious allegations regarding the Chief Minister’s Political Secretary, claiming undue influence over police operations from within the Chief Minister’s Office.
Additionally, he referenced a recent complaint from a woman in the film industry against a CPI-M leader who had been granted legislative status, questioning why this complaint was reportedly delayed before being forwarded to the police.
Satheesan alleged that the ruling party is defending over a dozen individuals facing serious sexual and criminal accusations while simultaneously targeting the Opposition for taking principled stands.
“I firmly maintain my stance. It is the Chief Minister and his party who are on the back foot,” he asserted.
Welcoming the Chief Minister’s apparent openness to a debate, Satheesan reiterated that robust public discussions are fundamental to democracy and called for a transparent exchange of views before the people of Kerala.
