New Delhi, Dec 15 (NationPress) In a strategic move aimed at the upcoming Assam Assembly elections set for 2026, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) declared on Monday the appointment of its election in charge and co-in-charges for the state, marking an early organizational drive and tactical planning for this crucial electoral contest.

As per a formal announcement from BJP National General Secretary Arun Singh, these appointments were sanctioned by the party’s National President Jagat Prakash Nadda and are effective immediately.

Baijayant Panda, a senior BJP leader and National Vice President, has been designated as the election in charge for the forthcoming Assam Assembly elections. Furthermore, two experienced leaders have been appointed as co-in-charges.

Sunil Kumar Sharma, the MLA and Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly, has been given this responsibility alongside Darshana Ben Jardosh, a former Union Minister and a prominent leader known for her extensive organizational and administrative expertise.

These appointments are viewed as a crucial step in fortifying the BJP’s organizational framework in Assam ahead of the 2026 elections.

Sources within the party indicate that this move underscores the BJP leadership’s commitment to meticulous planning, grassroots mobilization, and effective coordination between the central and state units to maintain their dominance in this northeastern state.

Over the past decade, Assam has played a pivotal role in the BJP's political growth in the Northeast, with the party successfully forming the government for two consecutive terms.
