Synopsis
Key Takeaways
BJP national president Nitin Nabin arrived in Bengaluru on Saturday, 23 May, on his first visit to Karnataka since assuming the party's top post, receiving a high-profile welcome from the state's senior opposition leadership at Kempegowda International Airport.
Airport Reception
Karnataka BJP president and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashoka, and Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy led the reception. They were joined by a large contingent of party office-bearers and workers. State co-incharge Sudhakar Reddy, Assembly Deputy Chief Whip Doddanagouda H. Patil, Legislative Council Deputy Chief Whip N. Ravikumar, and former minister Prabhu Chouhan were also present.
What Vijayendra Said
Ahead of the arrival, Vijayendra posted on X welcoming Nabin, describing his leadership as 'rooted in the ideology of Nation First' and saying his 'dynamic leadership and strong organisational vision have been a constant source of inspiration for our karyakartas across the country.' Vijayendra added that Nabin's presence had 'energised the cadre and injected fresh momentum into the organisation at every level.'
Speaking to reporters at the state BJP office, Vijayendra confirmed that the visit would include meetings with senior party leaders, legislators, and party workers.
Sunday Schedule
According to Vijayendra, Nabin is scheduled to visit former Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa's residence on Sunday morning for breakfast. He will then offer prayers at the Kadumalleshwara Temple before proceeding to the state BJP headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan, at around 10 a.m.
Nabin is expected to hold discussions with BJP MPs, MLAs, and Legislative Council members for nearly two hours, reviewing the current political situation in the state.
Core Committee and Training Camp
The BJP national president will also participate in the party's core committee meeting and later attend a training camp being organised in Bengaluru North district. 'It is a matter of pride for us that the BJP President is participating in the training programme. His presence will inspire party workers,' Vijayendra said.
The visit signals a renewed organisational focus by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka, where it is currently in opposition following the 2023 state assembly elections. How Nabin's engagement with the state unit shapes the party's strategy ahead of future electoral contests will be closely watched.
