BJP Files Complaint with Election Commission Amid Kerala Seal Controversy
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, March 28 (NationPress) The debate surrounding the alleged misuse of the BJP’s official seal on a circular released by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) related to electoral processes in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency has escalated. The BJP has approached the Election Commission of India, asserting that there is a larger political conspiracy at play.
The party has raised strong objections, contending that this incident is being portrayed as a simple procedural error by an individual official.
What was initially perceived as an oversight has, according to the BJP, transformed into a “calculated political scheme” involving portions of the state administration and officials within the Election Commission.
At the heart of the BJP’s claims is the involvement of an official, Jaisal P. Azeez, whom they allege has affiliations with groups such as DYFI and SFI. The party insists that this officer, recognized as a leader from an NGO (CPI(M)-affiliated) union, was intentionally designated for election duties.
Although action has reportedly been taken against the official responsible for issuing the letter, the BJP argues that this is merely an attempt to distract from a more significant network of collusion.
The party has further alleged a “collusion” between CPI(M) leaders and specific officials from the Election Commission.
They have questioned the appropriateness of appointing a Labour Department officer as the Returning Officer in Nemom, where Labour Minister V. Sivankutty is a candidate, highlighting that numerous other officials involved in the election are also from the same department.
Expressing serious concerns, BJP State General Secretary S. Suresh queried how the official managed to obtain the BJP’s seal and why, amidst hundreds of applications submitted to the Commission, only the BJP's document was highlighted and disseminated.
He accused the state's Election Commission of operating as a “B-team” for the CPI(M) and claimed that members of the NGO union are attempting to undermine the electoral process.
The BJP has submitted a formal complaint to the Election Commission, requesting the immediate transfer of the involved official and a thorough investigation into the matter. They have also accused the ruling government of exploiting administrative power to manipulate the election process.
