BJP in Kerala Alleges CPI-M Conspiracy Amid Migration Concerns
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
In Thiruvananthapuram on March 28 (NationPress), leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala launched a strong critique against the state’s CPI-M administration, alleging a "conspiracy" aimed at undermining the integrity of the electoral process. They also highlighted the pressing issue of migration in the state, which is poised to conduct Assembly elections on April 9.
Kerala's BJP general secretary, S. Suresh, accused the state Election Commission of colluding with the CPI-M.
He stated, "The Chief Election Office of Kerala has essentially turned into a B team for the CPI-M. Members of the CPI-M's trade unions are monopolizing all positions within the Election Commission Office of Kerala."
Suresh further asserted, "A glaring example is in Nemom, where our BJP Kerala chief, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, is contesting against the current Labour Minister, V. Sivankutty. The retaining officer for Nemom is a labour officer, and out of over 100 polling officers in the area, a significant number are from the Department of Labour. This illustrates a broader scheme to compromise the fairness of the elections."
He indicated that the party has formally approached the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding these concerns.
"BJP Keralam has submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission of India, demanding a fair electoral process, especially in Nemom, and more broadly across Kerala. We urge the ECI to intervene seriously," he emphasized.
In the meantime, the BJP has brought another matter to the ECI's attention, following allegations that the BJP's official seal was improperly used on a circular by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) regarding election procedures in the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency.
According to Shone George, Vice President of Kerala BJP, migration remains a significant concern for the state.
He remarked to IANS, "Compared to neighboring states that aren’t even governed by the BJP, Kerala has seen no industrial development recently. Young people are fleeing to other states and abroad in search of opportunities."
He reiterated, "The primary challenge in this constituency is migration."
Conversely, the Left Democratic Front (LDF), an ally of the CPI-M, disputed claims of stagnation, asserting that Kerala is on a path of rapid development.
During a conversation with IANS, LDF candidate from Poonjar, Sebastian Kulathunkal, stated, "Kerala is progressing swiftly in areas such as education, health, basic infrastructure, and industrial growth, positioning itself as a leader in India. Development initiatives here are robust and impactful."
Kulathunkal also accused the central government of neglect.
He claimed, "In the wake of floods in Wayanad and other regions, the central government has failed to provide any financial support or assistance to us."
