Alappuzha, March 24 (NationPress) On Tuesday, Congress General Secretary and Alappuzha MP K.C. Venugopal launched a fierce critique of Kerala's Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, accusing him of having a clandestine political alliance with the BJP as the Assembly elections approach. He referred to Vijayan as a 'compromised Chief Minister'.
With Kerala set to vote on April 9 to select 140 new legislators, Venugopal addressed the media, asserting that a careful review of candidate lists from both the CPI-M and BJP indicates a 'clear undercurrent' of mutual cooperation.
He elaborated that both parties have intentionally nominated candidates that could mutually benefit them in specific constituencies.
'This isn't a new discovery. We've raised this concern before. In numerous seats, the CPI-M has intentionally allowed space for the BJP, while the BJP has returned the favor in areas advantageous to the Left,' he stated, describing the situation as a 'self-serving political deal at the expense of their own party members'.
Venugopal further claimed that Vijayan's approach towards the Central government demonstrates political weakness.
'He is hesitant to confront Prime Minister Narendra Modi and operates under intimidation from central investigative agencies like the ED. This is why he shies away from addressing critical issues with the Centre,' Venugopal argued, suggesting that the CPI-M leadership has engaged in 'unethical compromises' following indications of potential electoral losses.
The Congress leader also criticized Vijayan's recent controversial comments at a public gathering, asserting they reveal a 'loss of composure' as defeat appears imminent.
'The inquiry posed at the event was a typical question from a party worker. As political figures, we frequently encounter questions. We don't instruct people to return home for answers,' he remarked, indirectly referencing the Chief Minister's reaction during a past engagement.
Venugopal condemned the CPI-M leadership for attempting to rationalize the use of offensive language in politics, including comments directed at former CPI-M leader G. Sudhakaran, who is contesting the Ambalapuzha seat with the backing of the Congress-led UDF.
'No individual, including the Chief Minister, is exempt from standards of public conduct. As the head of the government, he should exemplify proper behavior,' he emphasized.
Expressing confidence in the UDF's electoral chances, Venugopal predicted a 'notable shift' in the outcomes for the Alappuzha district.
'The election results will undoubtedly mirror the sentiments of the populace. The UDF is set to secure more seats than anticipated,' he asserted, indicating a formidable challenge to the ruling Left in their historical strongholds.
