Kerala Elections: Satheesan Intensifies Critique on CM Vijayan
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Ernakulam, March 24 (NationPress) In a fierce critique of Kerala's Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the Leader of the Opposition, V. D. Satheesan, accused him of authoritarian behavior, political hypocrisy, and forming secret electoral alliances with the BJP as the Assembly election campaign heats up.
Speaking to reporters in Perumbavoor, Satheesan remarked that the Chief Minister avoids public accountability, stating, “No one is permitted to challenge him. It resembles All India Radio,” alluding to Vijayan’s recent answers during a public gathering.
“If citizens are told to go home and inquire, they are likely to take to the streets and demand explanations regarding his mismanagement,” he added.
Satheesan accused the CPI(M) and BJP of a political “arrangement,” highlighting candidate nominations in several districts.
He noted that in areas like Ettumanoor, Trippunithura, Chengannur, Ranni, Konni, and Kasaragod, clear signs of tacit agreements favoring both parties were visible.
“Why does the Chief Minister react so defensively when these points are raised?” he queried, asserting that such collusions would be revealed by the UDF during the elections.
Furthermore, Satheesan criticized the Chief Minister’s choice of words in public interactions, claiming that CPI(M) leaders have normalized derogatory language.
He accused the ruling party of having “degenerated” to a point where they insult artists and defend offensive language.
“Despite having a rich language like Malayalam at their disposal, they resort to such vulgar expressions,” he remarked.
On governance issues, Satheesan alleged widespread misappropriation of public resources for political purposes, claiming that in recent months, thousands of crores have been utilized from state funds for advertising and promotional activities.
He specifically highlighted a government-sponsored event featuring actor Mohanlal, alleging that Rs 11.5 lakh was expended from taxpayer money.
“Such promotional activities should not come at the cost of the public,” he insisted, calling for a reimbursement.
The Opposition leader also defended his stance on minority communities, clarifying that he has never criticized the Latin Church and accused some media outlets of misrepresenting his statements.
He reiterated that the UDF would steadfastly oppose communal forces.
Emphasizing that the political climate is shifting, Satheesan asserted that voters would reject what he termed “arrogance, corruption, and deal-making politics,” indicating a fierce electoral battle ahead.
