Bengaluru, Oct 21 (NationPress) The BJP's Karnataka unit has launched a fierce critique of the Congress-led government following a letter from Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's adviser and MLA, Basavaraj Rayareddy, which reveals the existence of a sand mafia. They have raised the question: what additional evidence is required to highlight the extensive corruption embedded within the government?
On social media platform X, Karnataka BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra expressed on Tuesday, 'What further proof does Karnataka require to understand the profound level of corruption that has infiltrated the Congress-led administration? When the Chief Minister’s own Economic Adviser acknowledges a mafia-officer connection that is siphoning off more than Rs 400 crore annually from citizens, it lays bare the degradation within CM Siddaramaiah’s governance. The sand mafia operates with impunity while officials purportedly accept bribes under the protection of ministers.'
'Illegal mining, resource plundering, and bribery - under the Congress-led Karnataka regime, every sector appears compromised. Corruption has become commonplace, overshadowing development. Instead of rectifying this chaos, those in power have chosen to partake in it,' he remarked.
'If such severe decay is evident in one sector, what might be unfolding in others? This illustrates the true nature of Congress governance. Corruption is pervasive, while accountability is non-existent,' Vijayendra highlighted.
Basavaraj Rayareddy, the Chief Minister's Economic Adviser and a senior MLA, has vocally criticized the sand mafia operating in the state and has implored Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to act swiftly.
In a letter directed to the Chief Minister, Rayareddy urged urgent consideration of the issue, advocating for decisive measures to curb the ongoing revenue losses in the Koppal district.
He noted that the Koppal district boasts over 85 kilometers of the Tunga Bhadra riverbank, where an abundant supply of loose sand is available year-round. Every day, approximately 100 to 150 truckloads of this loose sand are being illicitly transported to Gadag, Ballari, Hubballi, Dharwad, Chitradurga, and Bengaluru without the necessary documentation or permits.
He stressed that this illegal transport is resulting in a substantial revenue loss to the state government due to uncollected royalties.
The CM's adviser cautioned that such activities are damaging the reputation of the state government. In this context, he called for an immediate cessation of the illegal transport of loose sand and jelly stones.
Rayareddy declared that this situation represents a significant embarrassment for the state government and urged it to send a strong message by implementing stringent actions.
