BJP MP Lahar Singh Siroya Questions Pawan Khera's Hyderabad Escape Amid Legal Troubles
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 8 (NationPress) Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP from Karnataka, Lahar Singh Siroya, sharply criticized Congress leader Pawan Khera on Wednesday, accusing him of trying to evade legal repercussions by “fleeing” to Hyderabad to dodge the Assam Police.
Khera serves as the Chairman of the Media and Publicity department within the AICC and is also a member of the Congress Working Committee.
Siroya expressed his concerns regarding Khera’s whereabouts, labeling the situation as “unfortunate” and suggesting that Congress leaders are left with very few locations in the country where they can “conceal” themselves.
He pointed out that it was “curious” Khera didn’t view Karnataka as a secure refuge. Siroya suggested that internal rifts within the Congress party would hinder Khera from garnering support there, hinting that the reasons for these divisions would be revealed in due time.
In furthering his argument, Siroya stated that Khera could not seek asylum in Kerala due to the current tensions between Congress leadership and its INDIA Bloc ally, the CPI(M), along with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. He also dismissed Tamil Nadu as an option, citing historical conflicts between Congress and the DMK during past seat-sharing discussions prior to the Assembly elections.
Siroya questioned the Congress party's political alliances, asking where the party still had partners, even indicating that regions like Himachal Pradesh might pose challenges. He also referenced West Bengal, implying that Congress leaders might need to seek help from Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Moreover, the BJP leader accused Congress of having “lost goodwill everywhere,” asserting that the party no longer possesses trustworthy allies or secure political ground. He warned that the citizens of Telangana wouldn’t appreciate their state becoming a “safe haven” for the Congress party’s internal conflicts.
Siroya did not hold back in his criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning why he hadn’t urged Khera to confront the police. He referenced Gandhi’s “Daro Mat” (do not fear) message, questioning its relevance in this scenario. He also raised the point of why Khera hadn’t sought refuge in Delhi, specifically at Gandhi’s residence or that of his relatives.
As of now, the Congress party has not responded to Siroya’s allegations.
It’s worth noting that Khera, a spokesperson for Congress, made serious accusations against Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his wife during a press conference, alleging that Sarma’s wife possessed multiple (three) passports along with undisclosed foreign assets, which included significant business interests abroad.
