New Delhi, April 7 (NationPress) Assam Police announced on Tuesday that they were unable to locate Congress leader Pawan Khera at his residence in Delhi, and his current location remains uncertain as the authorities continue their efforts to "trace him out".

Earlier in the day, Assam Police visited Khera's home in Delhi amid the uproar surrounding the allegation that Himanta Biswa Sarma, the Chief Minister of Assam, has a wife with three foreign passports. This investigation follows an FIR filed by Sarma's wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, concerning the matter on Monday.

While addressing reporters outside Khera's residence, a police spokesperson stated, "A case has been registered... We aimed to speak with Pawan Khera... Unfortunately, we could not meet him as he is not present... We discovered certain items in his residence, but I will refrain from revealing specifics... We are currently unaware of his whereabouts, but we will locate him..."

In response, Chief Minister Sarma asserted that the allegations leveled by Khera regarding his wife's supposed foreign passports have been "completely debunked as falsehoods".

During a press interaction, CM Sarma emphasized that the governments of all three nations mentioned in Khera's claims have formally denied the assertion that his wife possesses their passports.

"The lies propagated by Congress have now been thoroughly unveiled. All three countries have refuted the allegations made by Pawan Khera," he remarked.

The Chief Minister went on to clarify that the Assam Police's visit to Khera's residence was part of the ongoing investigation, but claimed that Khera was not found at the location.

"In my opinion, Pawan Khera has absconded," CM Sarma expressed to IANS.

Later, he suggested that Khera might have fled to Hyderabad to avoid interrogation, adding, "He has likely escaped to Hyderabad."

CM Sarma contended that these accusations were politically motivated attempts to tarnish his reputation and that of his family ahead of the forthcoming elections. He assured that the state government would take legal action to hold accountable those disseminating false information.

This controversy ignited when Khera accused Sarma's wife of possessing multiple foreign passports, a claim that the Chief Minister and his family have vehemently denied.

Recent inquiries by Congress leaders, including Gaurav Gogoi and Khera, have focused on potential foreign assets and connections linked to the Chief Minister's family, with particular mention of purported properties in Dubai and foreign documentation.

The Chief Minister and his family members have categorically denied these allegations, with Sarma's wife, Riniki, dismissing claims of any foreign business interests or assets as "groundless".
