Assam's CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Denounces Congress for Distributing Fake Documents Ahead of Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, April 6 (NationPress) Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, delivered a fierce critique of Congress leader Pawan Khera on Monday, accusing him of disseminating forged documents and exploiting Artificial Intelligence to tarnish his family's reputation in the run-up to the elections.
This pointed response follows Khera's claims during a press conference in Delhi, where he alleged that Riniki Bhuyan Sarma possesses passports from the UAE, Antigua, and Egypt, suggesting that the Chief Minister is hiding overseas assets, including properties in Dubai.
Khera had also called for a Special Investigation Team inquiry into supposed financial ties to a US-based firm.
During a press conference on the same day, Sarma accused the Congress of reaching a “new low” by distributing counterfeit passports and corporate documents in his wife's name, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma.
He cautioned that Khera could face severe legal repercussions, potentially including life imprisonment, for what he termed a “criminal conspiracy.”
Sarma asserted that the documents put forth by Congress were filled with obvious discrepancies.
“The so-called passports linked to my wife are entirely fake. They contain spelling mistakes, incorrect layouts, and even technical errors like non-functional QR codes,” he stated.
He emphasized that Dubai does not confer citizenship as suggested, declaring the claims “factually impossible.”
In a striking demonstration, the Chief Minister revealed that his team could establish two companies in his wife's name in just 24 hours using online resources, spending approximately Rs 40,000, to illustrate how easily fictitious entities could be created.
He also mentioned having created a similar company under the name of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi to reinforce his argument.
Criticizing the Congress leadership, Sarma expressed his disbelief that the son of former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi had “lowered himself to such tactics.”
He accused the Opposition party of orchestrating a failed plot to mislead voters, claiming that people would not be swayed by “forged documents” but would choose to support development and employment.
Sarma also suggested that Khera was “manipulated” by his own party, alleging that Congress provided him with fabricated materials after their attempts to marginalize him fell short.
