Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Denies Pawan Khera's Allegations of Fabrication
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Guwahati, April 5 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, categorically rejected the claims made by Congress's Pawan Khera on Sunday, labeling the documents circulated against his family as “fabricated” and indicative of a “malicious propaganda campaign.”
In a statement on X, Sarma asserted that the publicly shared documents exhibit “glaring inconsistencies,” pointing to “crude and poorly executed digital manipulation.”
He emphasized the inaccuracies, noting that the surname in the documents was misrepresented as “Sarma” rather than the correct “Sharma,” which casts doubt on their legitimacy.
Furthermore, the Chief Minister indicated that the photograph included was a generic image rather than a proper biometric capture. He also highlighted discrepancies in the purported UAE identity details, with ID sequence inconsistencies that do not correspond with the expected birth year pattern.
Adding to the concerns, Sarma identified a nationality mismatch, where the document inaccurately lists Egypt, while the machine-readable zone (MRZ) indicates a different country code.
Regarding an alleged passport from Antigua and Barbuda, he pointed out a discrepancy between the expiry date printed on the document and that on the MRZ.
In the case of an Egyptian passport, Sarma cited inconsistencies between the printed section and the MRZ, including misspellings like “Egyptiann” and incorrect Arabic references.
The Chief Minister also challenged the authenticity of a title deed being circulated, asserting that its QR code fails to link to any legitimate record. “These inconsistencies strongly suggest possible fabrication or digital manipulation,” he stated, affirming that “the truth will triumph” and warning that those perpetuating misinformation would face repercussions.
Expressing confidence, he stated that Khera’s “campaign of falsehood is approaching its conclusion,” suggesting that the Congress leader might encounter legal repercussions.
This controversy ignited after Khera alleged irregularities involving Sarma’s family, claims that the Chief Minister has firmly denied.
Previously, during a press conference in Delhi, Khera accused Sarma’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, of possessing passports from three countries: the UAE, Antigua, and Egypt, and claimed that certain international assets, including properties in Dubai, were not disclosed in official documents.
He also suggested that a company registered in Wyoming, USA, is associated with Sarma and alleged it involves financial transactions worth thousands of crores.
Khera characterized this situation as an alleged concealment of assets and called for a Special Investigation Team (SIT) inquiry by the Union Home Ministry.
