New Delhi, Aug 1 (NationPress) BJP officials criticized the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Friday after the Congress MP backed US President Donald Trump’s contentious labeling of the Indian economy as "dead."
Numerous leaders from various political factions condemned LoP Gandhi for what they termed a “reckless and damaging” statement regarding the nation's economic progress.
BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh stated, "India is well aware of how to safeguard its interests. It is not a dead economy but rather the fastest-growing economy globally. Under PM Modi’s guidance, we ascended from the 14th to the 5th and then to the 4th place."
"Very soon, India will be recognized as the world’s third-largest economic powerhouse. Nothing can halt India’s rise. Regrettably, the Congress party seems to trust foreign leaders’ remarks over India itself, which is truly disheartening," he added.
BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi vehemently denounced LoP Gandhi’s remarks, suggesting they resonate with anti-national sentiments.
“In the last 11 years alone, our nation has navigated various crises, global conflicts, climate change, and terrorism. In spite of these challenges, India’s economy has remained robust and secure. Rahul Gandhi consistently makes remarks that satisfy anti-India factions,” Naqvi informed IANS.
“He dedicates all his efforts to appeasing them. However, it is the nation that should find joy, not anti-national groups,” Naqvi asserted.
This backlash followed the Congress MP’s comments to reporters in Parliament on Thursday, where he supported President Trump’s statement.
“Yes, he is correct. Everyone is aware of this except the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister. The Indian economy is indeed a dead economy. I’m pleased President Trump has highlighted a fact... The entire globe recognizes that the Indian economy is a dead economy,” LoP Gandhi remarked.
JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar defended India's growth trajectory while recognizing population-related challenges.
“India’s economy is steadily strengthening. Yet, our high population density presents a significant obstacle... The ongoing economic expansion is reflected in the enhancement of our core infrastructure,” he observed.
JD(U) MP Devesh Chandra Thakur responded with irony, saying: “Well, that would be his perspective. He is a highly educated individual, while we may not match his level of education.”
