Chandigarh, Dec 24 (NationPress) The Punjab unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fiercely criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) administration in Punjab, alleging that a climate of open exploitation, threat, and fear has been cultivated under the guise of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

State BJP General Secretary Anil Sarin stated that the assertion made by Finance Minister Harpal Cheema regarding a 16% rise in GST revenue is merely a manipulation of statistics and an attempt to deceive the public.

He remarked that by reporting a revenue collection of Rs 17,860 crore from April to November, the state government is attempting to mislead the citizens of Punjab.

Sarin highlighted that GST refunds for traders have been intentionally withheld for several months.

“Documents have been left unattended since May, while the AAP government is concealing its shortcomings by displaying inflated and false revenue figures.”

He alleged that the GST Department has been directed to conduct multiple inspections—up to four per trader—and to implement targeted recoveries amounting to nearly Rs 100 crore each month.

Officials are purportedly intimidating traders under the threat of penalties, issuing numerous notices, and utilizing state intelligence to pressure and suppress businesses.

BJP leader Sarin pointed out that the AAP government has itself acknowledged that collections via state intelligence have surged from Rs 321 crore to Rs 618 crore.

“This unequivocally demonstrates that funds are being extracted through fear, coercion, and intimidation, which cannot be classified as tax reform under any circumstances,” Sarin declared to the media.

Sarin posed a direct question: “If revenue is genuinely on the rise, why are teachers, health workers, National Health Mission employees, urban local body staff, and pensioners compelled to protest for their salaries and pensions?”

This, he asserted, confirms that Punjab’s treasury is depleted and the state government has completely failed.
