Kolkata, April 1 (NationPress) A 12-member team consisting of 11 BJP legislators and a Lok Sabha member from West Bengal is set to participate in a tripartite meeting organized by the Central government in Delhi this week. The focus of this meeting is to work towards a permanent political resolution concerning the hills of Darjeeling, Kurseong, and Kalimpong located in the northern region of the state.

The meeting is slated for April 2 in the national capital, with the delegation having departed from New Delhi on Monday afternoon.

The only BJP Lok Sabha representative in this team is Raju Bista, who represents the Darjeeling constituency. He will be joined by Dr. Shankar Ghosh, the party legislator from the Siliguri assembly constituency and the chief whip of the BJP’s legislative assembly in West Bengal.

Additionally, the other ten legislators included in the delegation are Neeraj Zimba (Darjeeling), Durga Murmu (Phansidewa), Anandamoy Burman (Matigara-Naxalbari), Puna Bhengra (Nagrakata), Bishal Lama (Kalchini), Sikha Chatterjee (Dabgram-Phulbari), Sushil Barman (Mathabhanga), Malati Rava Roy (Tufanganj), Kaushik Roy (Maynaguri), and Chinmoy Deb Barman (Gazole).

Bista emphasized that the meeting is devoid of any political agenda. “It seems the Union Government has specific plans regarding the developments in the hills, which is why the tripartite meeting has been called. Political factions favoring the development of the hills should actively participate,” he stated.

Supporting this sentiment, Shankar Ghosh remarked that the Union government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has already significantly contributed to the development of North Bengal. “However, further action is necessary, and hence the tripartite meeting has been initiated,” he added.

Conversely, the ruling Trinamool Congress has accused the government of conducting the tripartite meeting without informing their leaders. “We are unaware of any such meeting. This will ultimately be a meaningless exercise since the BJP has always engaged in politics regarding the hills rather than focusing on genuine development,” stated Santa Chhetri, the Darjeeling Hill President of the Trinamool Congress and former Rajya Sabha member.
