Agartala, Jan 17 (NationPress) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha stated on Saturday that the current BJP government is focusing on enhancing school infrastructure and advocating for a comprehensive approach to education that extends beyond textbooks. He criticized the lack of substantial progress in the education sector prior to 2018.
During the inauguration of the newly built facilities for four Higher Secondary schools, the Chief Minister remarked that no advancements in education were evident before the BJP took office in the state in 2018. He noted that approximately Rs 20.64 crore has been allocated for the infrastructure development of the four schools inaugurated on Saturday.
While addressing the audience, Saha refrained from directly naming the Left Front government, indicating that the previous administration left a significant financial burden and multiple unresolved issues, including the ongoing 10,323 teachers' case. “Before 2018, there was no evident progress in education, health, and other sectors. Consequently, we are now tasked with working harder. Along with financial difficulties, several issues have also been left unresolved. Despite these hurdles, our government remains dedicated to uplifting all segments of society,” he stated.
Emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to inclusive growth, Saha, who oversees the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, remarked that particular attention has been directed towards the welfare of tribal communities. “India is home to approximately 700 tribal groups, with 19 located in Tripura. The unity among various groups—castes, tribes, Manipuris, and minorities—is our strength. Together, we must forge a new Tripura,” he asserted.
The Chief Minister mentioned that from 2019 to 2024, seven notable tribal figures from Tripura received the Padma Shri award. “The election of Droupadi Murmu, a woman from the tribal community, as President underscores the government’s commitment to tribal advancement. Previously, attempts were made to sow division among tribal communities, but our vision is to foster harmony and collective progress,” he added.
Saha observed that the state has experienced significant development in recent years, with regular inaugurations occurring throughout Tripura. “The more we empower tribal and marginalized communities, the more equitable the competition will become. Knowledge will shape our future, as emphasized by the Prime Minister,” he stated.
“Our government prioritizes infrastructure development, ensuring sufficient budgetary allocations are made,” he added. Highlighting that education transcends textbooks, Saha expressed the need to encourage students to engage in sports and other extracurricular activities.
“Education is a lifelong endeavor. Social challenges can be addressed through education, guiding us from darkness to enlightenment,” he remarked.
Notable attendees at the event included Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Lefunga Block Advisory Committee (BAC) Chairman Ranbir Debbarma, Vice Chairman Budhu Debbarma, Hejamara BAC Vice Chairman Nihar Ranjan Debbarma, Education Director N.C. Sharma, and other dignitaries.
