Bengaluru, March 26 (NationPress) Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, the BJP MLA representing Bijapur City in Karnataka, has been expelled from the party for a duration of six years due to his ongoing breaches of party discipline and his controversial statements regarding senior party figures, including former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa.

The BJP’s Central Disciplinary Committee made the expulsion official in a letter released on Wednesday.

This disciplinary action followed an evaluation of Yatnal’s “response to the show cause notice” that was dispatched to him on February 10, 2025. The committee expressed its “serious concern” over his persistent violations of party conduct despite earlier commitments to adhere to good conduct.

“In spite of previous warnings and commitments, you have continuously disregarded party discipline,” the committee remarked in its correspondence. Consequently, Yatnal was expelled from the BJP effective immediately and stripped of any party roles he previously occupied.

The expulsion order, which was endorsed by Om Pathak, the member secretary of the disciplinary committee, signifies the climax of ongoing internal disputes within the BJP.

Recently, Yatnal made an inappropriate comment about Kannada actor Ranya Rao, who was apprehended in a gold smuggling case in Bengaluru earlier this month.

This incident resulted in a First Information Report being registered against him at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru.

The MLA's inflammatory remarks and behavior have caused considerable embarrassment for the party.

Yatnal’s criticisms extended beyond external individuals and included his own party associates.

Just a day prior to receiving the expulsion notice, Yatnal questioned his chances of becoming the Chief Minister or the state party president, asserting: “I haven’t looted anyone, haven’t insulted anyone, and haven’t broken into anyone’s home. I haven’t engaged in anti-party activities,” a statement that seemed to indirectly challenge his party colleagues.

In reaction to his expulsion, Basanagouda Patil Yatnal asserted that the party had targeted him for “speaking the truth.”

In a post on X, he stated: “The party has expelled me for six years for opposing dynasty politics, corruption, advocating reforms within the party, eliminating individual dominance, and promoting the development of North Karnataka. The party has rewarded me for ‘speaking the truth.’”

Yatnal further criticized the BJP leadership, alleging their involvement in “dynasty politics” and claiming that certain vested interests had successfully pushed their agenda at the expense of his position.

“Certain vested interests have effectively advanced their agenda. The decision to expel me will not stop my struggle against corruption, family politics, the development of North Karnataka, and Hindutva,” he added.
