Ranchi, March 10 (NationPress) The Jharkhand Assembly experienced significant turmoil on Monday as BJP legislators initiated a vigorous protest concerning the deteriorating law and order situation in the state. Their persistent chanting compelled the Speaker to suspend the Question Hour proceedings.
As soon as the session commenced, the Leader of the Opposition, Babulal Marandi, expressed alarm over the escalating crime rates in the state, referencing several recent occurrences. He insisted on an urgent discussion regarding the matter.
“In broad daylight on Friday, a businessman was shot in Ranchi. On Saturday, NTPC’s Deputy General Manager Kumar Gaurav was killed in Hazaribagh. Last week, assailants attacked the Anand Marg Ashram in the Chanho area, resulting in two fatalities. These are just a few instances -- crime is rampant, while the government remains silent,” Marandi said.
BJP MLA Amit Yadav also called for an immediate debate and a response from the government. However, the Speaker insisted that the issue had already been addressed before the House and that the Question Hour should continue as planned.
Determined to press their point, BJP MLAs surged into the Well of the House, chanting slogans against the government and Chief Minister Hemant Soren. Despite several appeals from Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahato to restore order, the uproar persisted, leading to an adjournment.
Speaking to reporters outside the Assembly, BJP MLA Naveen Jaiswal accused the government of creating a state of “jungle raj” in Jharkhand.
“No one -- from ordinary citizens to officials, businessmen to women -- is safe in Jharkhand. While the government boasts inside the Assembly, criminals continue to dominate the streets. Jharkhand has become the leading state in incidents of rape, murder, robbery, and snatching. Look at Uttar Pradesh -- criminals there fear the law. They are either incarcerated or have fled. Jharkhand requires a government capable of maintaining law and order,” Jaiswal stated.
With BJP MLAs steadfast in their efforts to keep the issue at the forefront, further disruptions in the ongoing Assembly session are anticipated.
