Bengaluru, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Karnataka government has issued prohibitory orders in Mysuru in anticipation of a convention aimed at condemning the recent assault on a police station due to a controversial social media post.
To date, 17 individuals have been detained, including an Islamic cleric alleged to have incited the mob that attacked the Udayagiri police station.
Despite the government's restrictions in Mysuru, the Karnataka BJP has asserted its resolve to resist any forms of pressure.
During a press conference in Bengaluru on Monday, State BJP President B.Y. Vijayendra remarked, “In Mysuru’s Udayagiri area, anti-national elements caused chaos by attacking the police station. A significant protest organized by the Rashtra Suraksha Janandolana Samiti is taking place today, with support from all Hindu groups, drawing thousands of demonstrators in Mysuru.”
He criticized the government’s decision to impose prohibitory orders, stating, “If the government had the competency, it should have enacted prohibitory measures on the day the police station was assaulted. Instead, they restrict Hindu activists when they protest.”
“What was the police doing during the attack? The state government believes its actions are justified, but that is not the case. Hindu groups are raising awareness in Mysuru,” he emphasized.
He further stated that the Congress government would not be able to thwart the protests by Hindu activists, even if it attempted to implement legal restrictions.
“The unfortunate reality is that the Congress-led government in Karnataka, over the past two years, evokes memories of the Nizam’s rule before Independence. Back then, the Razakars perpetrated atrocities against Hindus. Now, Hindu activists and the community are reminded of those grim times,” he claimed.
Vijayendra also noted the growing insecurity faced by police officers in the state. “There are increasing instances of police officers being threatened within police stations. The state government is ignoring this. Even Karnataka’s Home Minister has admitted his powerlessness, expressing willingness to resign. When both the police department and the Home Minister are ineffective, it becomes essential for Hindu activists and organizations to step in and promote awareness,” he asserted.
“In this context, the BJP is fully engaged in this significant convention. We will caution the government as Hindu activists continue to enlighten the public,” Vijayendra added.
He has arrived in Mysuru and is currently consulting with party leaders and Hindu activists regarding future strategies.
Former Minister and senior BJP member N. Mahesh stated, “The convention on February 24, organized by the Rashtra Suraksha Jan Andolana Samiti in Mysuru, seeks to denounce the assault on the Udayagiri police station resulting from a social media post.”
“A case was lodged against 1,000 individuals, yet only 17 have been apprehended. How can this be justified?” he questioned.
The incident originated from a controversial social media post.
The suspect, Satish aka Panduranga, a resident of Kalyan Nagar in Mysuru, had shared content mocking Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi, former Chief Ministers Akhilesh Yadav and Arvind Kejriwal. The post also included inflammatory communal remarks aimed at a specific religious community, which rapidly gained traction.
Subsequently, a group from the minority community congregated outside the Udayagiri Police Station, demanding action against the accused.
Although police efforts to calm the crowd included engagement with religious leaders, the situation deteriorated. The mob began hurling stones at the police station and also targeted the official vehicle of the DCP.
As tensions escalated, police resorted to a lathi-charge and deployed tear gas to disperse the rioting crowd.
