Bengaluru, May 5 (NationPress) The Karnataka BJP has voiced alarm over reported overt threats directed at Hindu activists in the communal landscape of Mangaluru. BJP state unit President, B.Y. Vijayendra, remarked on Monday, “The heinous murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty has left the populace of Mangaluru district in shock. Residents across the state are deeply concerned due to the rampant influence of communal elements. In this context, yet another Hindu activist, Bharat Kumdellu, has been threatened with death via a social media post.”

Suhas Shetty, a Hindu activist with a troubled past, was killed on May 1 in Mangaluru. He was implicated in the murder of one Mohammad Fazil.

Fazil was slain by Shetty's gang as retaliation for the killing of BJP worker Praveen Kumar Nettaru, who lost his life during the peak of the hijab controversy in the state.

Vijayendra asserted, “The Congress administration persistently neglects its ethical duty. No legal measures have been implemented to restore law and order. The silence of the Home Department and the influence of unseen, powerful 'forces' behind the scenes have become clear following the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty and the threats that ensued.”

Vijayendra added, “An FIR has been filed against Belthangady BJP MLA, Harish Poonja, merely for his emotional comments regarding the Tekkaru Gopalakrishna Temple and the Brahmakalashotsava event. This clearly indicates where the government's loyalties are directed.”

“A concerning situation is evolving in the coastal area where even elected officials are at risk. If the police's conduct and the government's approach do not change, we warn the administration that the grassroots movement led by BJP Karnataka will only escalate,” Vijayendra cautioned.

Senior leader of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), Sharan Pumpwell, has lodged a police complaint at the Kadri police station in Mangaluru related to a threat to his life via social media.

The post warned that Sharan Pumpwell was the next target and advised him to prepare himself. The police have initiated an FIR under Sections 351 (4) of the BNS Act concerning this post.

Bharat Kumdel, a member of Bajrang Dal, has also reported receiving threats, stating that people “have not forgotten Bharat who killed Mohammad Ashraf.” The message directed at him included the phrase, “wait and watch,” alongside an image of a sword. Mohammad Ashraf was recently lynched under the accusation of shouting a “Pakistan Zindabad” slogan.

Moreover, Riyaz Kadambu, a leader associated with the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), has also filed a complaint with the Pandeshwara police regarding threats against his life.

He informed the police that while participating in a program on a YouTube channel, he received a threatening message indicating he was the next target. The threat was issued by one K.R. Rakesh, and the police are currently investigating these incidents.

Point of View

It's paramount to approach this issue with a balanced perspective.
