New Delhi, April 27 (NationPress) As 400 new DTC buses are set to be inaugurated on May 2, the BJP and AAP found themselves in a heated exchange over the purported decline of public transport buses in Delhi.
AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar claimed there is a bus crisis and a significant shortage of Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses, while Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor refuted the allegation as inaccurate.
“Bus routes have been streamlined, and operations are well-organized. On May 2, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta will unveil 400 new buses for the residents of Delhi,” Kapoor stated.
Kapoor expressed disappointment that in the last decade, the Arvind Kejriwal government has failed to add a single new bus to the DTC fleet, resulting in all existing buses being over 10 years old and nearing the end of their legal fitness lifespan between 2023 and 2024.
Due to the inaction of the Kejriwal administration, many buses in the DTC and cluster fleets have surpassed their fitness life, leading some to be removed from service, he noted.
Nevertheless, by optimizing bus routes within the city, the government has prevented a bus crisis from arising, Kapoor asserted.
He emphasized that the citizens of Delhi recognize that the lack of buses stems from the Kejriwal government’s inability to procure new vehicles.
He also remarked that the situation could have deteriorated further if the Narendra Modi-led Central Government hadn't supplied 1,700 electric buses to DTC under the FAME scheme.
Earlier, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' initiative for clearly stating that those trying to disrupt peace in Kashmir will face consequences.
He assured that those responsible for turmoil in Jammu and Kashmir will be met with a robust response.
Sachdeva concluded by stating that the BJP government views challenges as opportunities and is dedicated to progressing at both national and Delhi levels by tackling every challenge head-on.
