Hyderabad, March 5 (NationPress) In a significant blow to the ruling Congress party in Telangana, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) successfully captured the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ segment.

BJP candidate Chinnamail Anji Reddy triumphed by more than 5,000 votes over his closest rival V. Narender Reddy from the Congress party during the tally of second preference votes.

By the conclusion of the counting process, Anji Reddy had garnered 97,880 votes. Narender Reddy secured second place, while Prasanna Harikrishna from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) finished third.

Out of the 56 candidates, 53 were eliminated in the second preference stage.

The counting of second-preference votes was conducted after no candidate achieved victory in the first-preference round.

The MLC election took place on February 27 using a preferential voting system via ballot papers.

This seat was previously held by senior Congress figure and former minister T. Jeevan Reddy.

The lengthy size of the ballot paper resulted in the counting staff taking over a day to sort the votes. A considerable number of invalid votes also contributed to the delays in the counting process.

From the total of 2,52,100 votes (including postal ballots) cast, approximately 28,000 were ruled invalid.

In total, 2,50,106 voters participated in the Graduates’ MLC elections on February 27, determining the outcome for 56 candidates.

The BJP won two out of three MLC seats contested on February 27.

BJP-supported candidate Malka Komaraiah also won the election from Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ constituency.

He achieved victory with a margin exceeding 5,700 first preference votes against his nearest opponent Vanga Mahender Reddy from the PRTU (TS).

The PRTU (TS) secured the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda seat, with candidate P. Sripal Reddy winning through second-preference votes, accumulating 13,969 votes. Incumbent MLC Narsi Reddy of UTF finished in second place.

In related news, G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Coal and Mines and state BJP president, congratulated Anji Reddy on his win in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ seat.

He stated that the youth of Telangana have shown their faith in the developmental politics of BJP and the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This reflects the increasing popularity of the BJP in Telangana, he added.

Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar celebrated the BJP’s victory in Karimnagar, noting that the countdown for the Congress government has begun. He asserted that the people of Telangana desire change and are looking toward the BJP.

Bandi Sanjay remarked that while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and others have questioned the integrity of EVMs, the BJP has succeeded in elections conducted via ballot papers.
