Hyderabad, March 3 (NationPress) The vote counting for the Telangana Legislative Council elections concerning two teacher and one graduate constituency is currently in progress this Monday.
The counting commenced at 8 a.m. for the graduate constituency of Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar, as well as the teacher constituencies of Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar and Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda.
The polling took place on February 27 using ballot papers, and the counting process is estimated to span two to three days.
Officials from the Election Commission have accessed the strong rooms with candidates or their representatives present.
The counting for the graduate and teacher constituencies of Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar is taking place at Ambedkar Indoor Stadium in Karimnagar.
Meanwhile, the vote counting for the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency is occurring at the Warehousing Corporation godown in Nalgonda.
Candidates achieving more than 50 percent of first preference votes will be declared winners. If no candidate secures a majority in the first round, counting for second preference votes will follow.
The counting process is expected to last around 36 hours for the two teachers’ constituencies, while the graduates’ constituency may take up to three days.
The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency reported a polling rate of 70.4 percent. In contrast, the voter turnout was 91.9 percent in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ constituency, and the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency recorded a turnout of 93.55 percent.
A total of 56 candidates are competing for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates' constituency. With the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) not participating, the primary competition is between the ruling Congress party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). About 3,55,159 graduates had the right to vote.
Though the elections for teachers’ segments were conducted on a non-party basis, the BJP nominated candidates in both segments. There are 15 candidates contesting in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar constituency and 19 candidates in the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda constituency.
The Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar teachers’ constituency has 27,088 voters, while the Warangal-Khammam-Nalgonda teachers’ constituency has 25,759.
The Congress and the BJP are engaged in a direct contest in the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar graduates’ constituency, currently held by senior Congress leader and former minister T. Jeevan Reddy.
