Amaravati, Feb 27 (NationPress) Over 65% of eligible voters participated in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council election from the Krishna-Guntur graduates’ constituency, while more than 63% of voters cast their ballots in the East-West Godavari graduates’ constituency.
As reported by Chief Electoral Officer Vivek Yadav, a remarkable 91.82% voter turnout was noted in the Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam teachers’ constituency.
The election process commenced at 8 a.m. and concluded at 4 p.m. across all three constituencies, with the CEO confirming that the polling proceeded smoothly and peacefully. Vote counting is scheduled for March 3.
The voting percentages were 65.58% in Krishna-Guntur and 63.28% in East-West Godavari.
A total of 939 polling stations, which included 83 auxiliary polling stations, were established in the graduates’ constituencies, along with 123 in the teachers’ constituency. The Election Commission assigned 6,287 polling staff and 8,515 police personnel to ensure a smooth and peaceful election.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son, IT Minister Nara Lokesh, exercised their voting rights in the Krishna-Guntur graduates’ constituency at the Zilla Parishad High School in Undavalli, Guntur district.
Union Minister Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar and Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar also cast their votes in Tenali.
A total of 25 candidates contested in the Krishna and Guntur graduates’ constituency, with a key competition between Alapati Rajendra Prasad from the Telugu Desam Party and K.S. Lakshman Rao from the Progressive Democratic Front.
The TDP's alliance partners, Jana Sena and BJP, have also pledged their support for Rajendra Prasad.
The constituency is home to approximately 3.47 lakh voters, comprising 2.06 lakh males, 1.4 lakh females, and 45 transgenders, who cast their votes across 483 polling booths in Eluru, Krishna, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, and Palnadu districts.
In total, 35 candidates participated in the East and West Godavari graduates’ constituency, where 3,14,984 graduates were eligible to vote.
The NDA-supported P. Rajasekhar is vying for the East-West Godavari graduates’ constituency.
For the Srikakulam-Vizianagaram-Visakhapatnam teachers’ constituency, 10 candidates are contesting, with 22,493 teachers eligible to participate.
The Andhra Pradesh Teachers’ Federation (APTF) has nominated Pakalapati Raghu Varma, who has the support of the TDP. Other candidates include G Srinivasulu Naidu from the Panchayat Raj Teachers’ Union and Vijaya Gouri from the Progressive Democratic Front.
It is noteworthy that the YSR Congress Party did not put forth any candidates for the MLC elections.
