Los Angeles, Nov 16 (NationPress) Actor-comedian Eddie Murphy once faced a significant disappointment at the Oscars, and he is now revealing the emotional scars from that experience.
As the 2007 Academy Awards approached on February 25, 2007, Eddie Murphy was widely regarded as the top contender for the Oscar for best supporting actor due to his remarkable role in the 2006 musical film ‘Dreamgirls’, according to reports from ‘People’ magazine.
Having dominated the major televised award shows, winning at the Golden Globes, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, and the Critics Choice Awards, Murphy had received unprecedented acclaim throughout his career, and the film was a major success.
However, as stated by ‘People’, when Rachel Weisz, the previous year's winner for best supporting actress for ‘The Constant Gardener’, announced the winner, the Oscar went to Alan Arkin for ‘Little Miss Sunshine’.
While Murphy offered polite applause upon hearing Arkin's name, along with fellow nominees Jackie Earle Haley from ‘Little Children’, Djimon Hounsou from ‘Blood Diamond’, and Mark Wahlberg from ‘The Departed’, he felt a surge of anger inside. In the new Netflix documentary ‘Being Eddie’, which chronicles the life and career of the iconic comedian and actor, he expresses his frustration regarding the event, indicating that he felt he got dressed up for nothing.
“Not winning the Oscar or any award isn’t the true mindf* for me,” says the notoriously private 64-year-old performer in the documentary. “The real mindf* is getting dressed and going to the event, especially since I usually avoid award shows.”
He went on to say, “Whenever I lose, I think, 'These individuals made me come all the way down here. I could have f** lost at home.' Here I am, all suited up. What a waste of time. Winning is great, but if I don’t win, I don’t care. I still return home as... I'm still Eddie in the morning.”
Interestingly, his co-star Jennifer Hudson, who transitioned from being an ‘American Idol’ contestant to a film star with ‘Dreamgirls’, emerged victorious, winning the award for best supporting actress that same night.
