Kolkata, March 8 (NationPress) - West Bengal's Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of trying to substitute the “Indian Constitution” with their party manifesto. She claims that the BJP is systematically using every democratic institution and constitutional position to further their own anti-people agenda.

Her remarks followed widespread criticism of her and the Trinamool Congress party over a controversy involving President Droupadi Murmu's attendance at an International Santal Conclave in Gossaipur, Darjeeling, where she was the Chief Guest.

“What we are observing now is unprecedented and profoundly regrettable, representing a direct attack on the democratic foundations of our republic. In their pursuit of their 'One Nation, One Leader, One Party' ideology, the BJP has weaponized every democratic institution and constitutional post to fulfill their Jono-Birodhi ambitions,” the Chief Minister expressed in a morning social media update.

She stated that the BJP and the Union government first deployed Central investigative agencies, various national commissions, a compliant media, and a certain segment of the judiciary against West Bengal.

Additionally, Mamata Banerjee criticized the use of the Election Commission of India (ECI), which she referred to as the “Vanish Commission”, alleging it is being used to erase legitimate voters from the state's voter list.

“Their aim is clear. They want to replace Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution with their party manifesto. I refuse to accept this. I will stand firm against it. Our protest at Dharmatala represents our resistance to every agenda that seeks to humiliate, intimidate, and persecute the people of this state. The BJP's sole focus is on power, while my focus has always been on the people. These Zamindars of Delhi will never achieve their goal to dominate this great land,” she asserted.

“Bengal rose to break the chains of colonial rule. Once again, Bengal will rise to contribute to the inevitable downfall of the BJP,” concluded the Chief Minister in her social media message.

Point of View

The accusations made by Mamata Banerjee against the BJP highlight ongoing tensions in Indian politics. The concerns regarding the integrity of democratic institutions are significant, and the discourse surrounding the protection of the Constitution remains vital for the nation's future.
