Chandigarh, July 10 (NationPress) Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema has accused the BJP of actively shielding gangsters and attempting to destabilize non-BJP state administrations through tactics of violence and intimidation.
Cheema claimed that several prominent BJP figures, from Punjab to Delhi, were observed defending the accused rather than supporting the victims.
“In the case of the murder of an Abohar businessman, as soon as strict measures were initiated against the accused, numerous high-ranking BJP officials began to express concern,” Cheema stated.
“From Delhi to Punjab, BJP leaders were spotted siding with the criminals responsible for the businessman’s murder. Why is there a protective shield around these gangsters?”
Cheema raised significant concerns regarding the protection afforded to incarcerated gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in Gujarat, a state governed by the BJP for the last 30 years.
“Who facilitated Lawrence Bishnoi's transfer to Gujarat, and why is he being safeguarded there? The BJP appears to be protecting him to incite unrest in states governed by opposition parties,” Cheema informed the media.
He asserted that gangsters are being employed to target business owners and instill fear.
“In states where the BJP is not in power, they are utilizing criminals and gangsters to disrupt peace. This constitutes a perilous conspiracy against the nation’s federal framework and law enforcement,” he emphasized.
In response to BJP leaders' claims that the police encounter was fabricated, Cheema remarked: “Certain BJP ministers in Delhi have labeled the encounter as fake. However, the people of Punjab are aware of the reality. The Aam Aadmi Party government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will take rigorous action against anyone attempting to disturb peace in the state.”
Cheema urged both the Union government and the Gujarat government to promptly transfer Lawrence Bishnoi to the jurisdictions and courts where cases against him are registered.
“Why has he not been brought before the courts in Punjab and other states where FIRs exist against him? Why is he being sheltered in Gujarat? The citizens of this nation deserve answers,” he concluded.
