Thiruvananthapuram, April 7 (NationPress) The President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on Tuesday, accused the CPI-M and Congress of leveraging the issue of women's entry into the Sabarimala Temple as an “emotional tactic” to secure votes in the upcoming Assembly elections set for April 9.

Chandrasekhar's remarks came as a nine-judge Constitution Bench, led by Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant, initiated hearings on the long-awaited Sabarimala review case, which addresses crucial constitutional questions regarding religious freedom and gender equality.

He asserted, “The Sabarimala case exemplifies how the CPI-M and Congress have attempted to undermine a community that holds Sabarimala dear by trying to disrupt its traditions since 2018.”

He added, “When the BJP and many Malayalis protested against this, numerous individuals were jailed, and thousands faced legal charges. The Congress chose to remain silent and sided with the CPI-M regarding the entry of women into Sabarimala.”

Chandrasekhar also highlighted that, “Now, just before the elections, the CPI-M is backpedaling, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is attempting to act as though he has a stake in the Sabarimala issue.”

Furthermore, he alleged that the individual central to the Sabarimala gold theft scandal “has been photographed alongside Congress leader Sonia Gandhi and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.”

He questioned the credibility of the CPI-M and Congress, asking, “On what grounds are they trying to exploit Sabarimala as an emotional issue for electoral gain just days before the elections?”

Chandrasekhar emphasized that the BJP has consistently upheld its position on Sabarimala since 2018, focusing on “protecting the faith of devotees.”

He further accused Rahul Gandhi of being a “key player” and a “beneficiary” in the alleged National Herald scam.

In response to Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's comments suggesting a “nexus” between CPI-M and BJP, Chandrasekhar stated, “You are the Chief Minister of a state who rose to power in Telangana with promises that remain unfulfilled. Focus on your responsibilities in Telangana.”
