Kolkata, Nov 27 (NationPress) In a concerning development, another Booth Level Officer (BLO) has experienced a heart attack while engaged in Special Intensive Revision (SIR) tasks in West Bengal. This incident has raised alarming questions about the health and safety of these officers in the region.
In response to this unfortunate event, BJP MP Saumitra Khan has rejected any correlation between the BLO's health issues and the SIR activities or the BJP's involvement. He pointed out that the West Bengal government employs nearly five lakh individuals.
"If any of them falls ill, can we hold the state government accountable? Illness can arise from various factors," he stated.
Khan further elaborated that during the SIR process, if an officer suffers from ailments due to environmental conditions or mental strain, can SIR be blamed? Should the blame fall on the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister?
On the topic of the state government's aid for BLOs, Khan mentioned, "Mamata herself indicated that compensation would be provided if someone suffers or passes away. This perception has led many to think that death might lead to employment benefits, which is a dangerous mindset."
He emphasized that the health issues or fatalities of any BLO should not be exploited to fabricate a political narrative regarding the ongoing SIR.
The affected BLO, identified as Kamal Kumar Biswas from the Barjora area of Bankura district, had been diligently working on SIR enumeration forms for several days. According to his wife, he was under immense physical and mental pressure, often working overnight and dedicating most of the day to completing forms. He suddenly collapsed due to severe chest pain.
Biswas was swiftly taken to a private hospital located in Bidhannagar, Durgapur, in the West Burdwan district, where he underwent heart surgery on Wednesday. His condition is now reported as stable.
On Thursday, another BLO was admitted to a hospital in Bangaon of North 24 Parganas district after suffering a cardiac arrest attributed to the stress of SIR duties.
This incident follows closely on the heels of two female BLOs who tragically took their own lives due to the demands and pressures associated with SIR work. Additionally, another BLO suffered a cerebral attack during SIR activities, and yet another experienced a heart attack in the Gosaba area of South 24 Parganas district.
