The unfortunate incident occurred in the Yamuna River close to the renowned Kesi Ghat in Mathura when a boat with devotees overturned on Friday afternoon.
As per District Magistrate CP Singh, the mishap happened around 2:45 p.m. while nearly 30 individuals from Ludhiana were navigating in two boats. One boat reportedly sank after colliding with a floating pipa bridge.
“We have so far recovered six bodies and rescued approximately 16 to 17 people alive,” the DM stated, calling the incident "very unfortunate."
Initial accounts suggest that the boat was carrying around 25 pilgrims and locals when it capsized near Kesi Ghat (also referred to as Shringar Ghat). Many individuals are still feared missing, leading to a comprehensive search and rescue effort.
Local police, district administration teams, and trained divers have been dispatched to the site. Rescue personnel are diligently working to locate the missing individuals while authorities closely monitor the situation.
