Kolkata, Jan 18 (NationPress) In a tragic turn of events, the remains of a man and his spouse were discovered in a flat located in Maheshtala, South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, on Sunday.
As reported by the police, the incident took place in Ward No. 15 of Maheshtala Municipality, situated near Kolkata. Authorities forced entry into the flat, where they found the bodies of Tanmoy Dey (52) and his wife, Ruma Rakshit (47). Unfortunately, by the time they were transported to the hospital, it was already too late. Medical professionals pronounced them dead upon arrival.
Sources from the locality indicated that the couple had been residing in a rented flat on the third floor. On Sunday morning, relatives attempted to contact them but received no response after prolonged attempts, raising their suspicions. They hurried to the flat, only to discover the door locked from the inside. Despite repeated calls and knocks, there was no reply from the couple.
Realizing something was amiss, they promptly alerted local law enforcement. Upon arrival, police broke down the door and found the husband and wife unconscious on their bed.
Authorities noted that numerous empty sleeping pill boxes were scattered around the couple. They were quickly taken to Vidyasagar Hospital in the Behala region of south Kolkata, where doctors confirmed their deaths.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple may have taken their own lives. Police are currently speaking with family members to uncover the motivations behind such a drastic decision.
According to family insiders, the couple had been grappling with severe financial troubles for some time. Law enforcement is investigating whether this financial strain led them to this extreme action, while also exploring other potential factors involved.
"The bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination. The precise time and cause of death will be clarified once the post-mortem report is released. Meanwhile, a case of unnatural death is under investigation," stated a senior police officer from South 24 Parganas district.
