New Delhi, Jan 18 (NationPress) Drawing motivation from the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative initiated by PM Modi, the NDMC Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal took part in a unique tree plantation event alongside members of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) in Laxmibai Nagar this past Sunday.
A significant turnout of local residents, RWA representatives, and officials from the NDMC’s civil, health, garden, and related departments participated. Each participant planted trees in honor of their mothers, promising to ensure their ongoing care and protection.
Chahal emphasized, “This initiative transcends mere tree planting; it symbolizes our collective duty to our mothers and the environment. Every tree planted in a mother’s name embodies a heartfelt connection and a commitment to safeguard her.”
He noted that special tree plantation events are being organized as part of the campaign, encouraging active involvement from citizens, students, and both public and private institutions to foster community participation.
During the campaign, tagged #EkPedMaaKeNaamOnSunday, various tree species were planted, including peepal, champa, neem, and ashoka, all contributed by local residents and RWA members. This initiative is set to continue every Sunday.
The Vice Chairman mentioned that the NDMC has also undertaken tree planting initiatives at the embassy grounds of over 20 countries, such as Australia, Denmark, Korea, Mauritius, Netherlands, Poland, Sri Lanka, Portugal, Austria, Lithuania, and Russia, thereby fostering international collaboration for environmental stewardship.
Chahal shared that the NDMC’s Garden Department has developed an annual action plan, ensuring regular tree planting activities every Sunday as part of this campaign.
He asserted that if every individual makes small efforts at their own level, it will significantly aid in reducing pollution and contribute positively to environmental conservation.
Chahal also assessed the Palika Gram residential complex and provided necessary directives to the Building Maintenance Department regarding the installation of ramps for senior citizens, repairs to boundary walls and gates, and addressing seepage issues.
He concluded by stating that the NDMC’s ongoing green initiatives and focus on citizen engagement highlight the essential role of urban greenery in creating clean, healthy, and livable cities.
Inspired by the vision of ‘Developed India @ 2047’, Team NDMC is committed to environmental protection, pollution control, and enhancing citizens' quality of life.
