Kuljeet Singh Chahal Drives Tree Plantation Campaign in Laxmibai Nagar
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 5 (NationPress) Kuljeet Singh Chahal, the Vice Chairman of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), spearheaded the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' tree plantation initiative on Sunday at Laxmibai Nagar, featuring enthusiastic involvement from local residents, including government staff.
"Planting saplings symbolizes our cultural values and our reverence for nature," stated Chahal, drawing a comparison between a mother nurturing her offspring and community members tending to the young trees.
As participants engaged in the planting of saplings and committed to their care, the NDMC Vice Chairman emphasized that this program is inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call to action through the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, which motivates individuals to plant a tree in honor of their mothers and nurture it with diligence and dedication.
Chahal highlighted the vibrant participation of women, children, and members of the Residents' Welfare Association, who all showed great enthusiasm for the initiative.
This event also sparked discussions regarding the Women Reservation Bill, with many participants applauding PM Modi's efforts towards finally addressing the 40-year wait for women's representation.
The plantation drive took place at Tikona Park, located near the Laxmibai Nagar Market.
Present at the event was Rajesh Kumar Meena, President of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA), along with numerous residents from Laxmibai Nagar, who actively took part in the planting effort.
Chahal revealed that the NDMC has devised a 'Green Calendar' for the entire year, planning weekly tree plantation activities each Sunday across various regions under its jurisdiction.
"To guarantee the success of this initiative, the Horticulture, Health, Civil, and Sanitation Departments of NDMC will collaborate closely to ensure scientific planting, proper care, and monitoring of the saplings, enabling them to develop into sustainable green areas in the future," he remarked.
Previously, on March 1, Chahal had also led a similar plantation event at Gandhi Sadan within the NDMC Housing Complex at Mandir Marg, with significant involvement from local residents, as noted by an official.
In addressing the attendees, the NDMC Vice Chairman underscored that the campaign is being executed with a mission-oriented approach to maximize green cover throughout the NDMC area, as per an official statement.
He noted that the drive has been actively promoted within embassies and diplomatic missions in the NDMC jurisdiction, as well as in universities, colleges, schools, and commercial and residential neighborhoods, with participation from Market Traders Associations (MTAs) and RWAs.
The aim is to extend the initiative to every corner of the NDMC area in alignment with the Prime Minister's vision of 'Viksit Bharat @2047', ensuring tree planting wherever necessary for a cleaner and greener urban environment, Chahal added.
He reiterated that public involvement is crucial for the success of the campaign.
Chahal urged citizens, institutions, and organizations to join this green movement actively, contributing to the transformation of New Delhi into a cleaner, greener, and more environmentally responsible city.
