Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar on Tuesday, 25 August threw his weight behind Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's sharp criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, asserting that Gandhi's remarks consistently undermine India's institutions — from the country itself to the Election Commission of India (ECI). Rajbhar's statement follows a high-profile address by CM Yogi at a commemorative event in Lucknow, where the Chief Minister accused Gandhi of defaming Uttar Pradesh and India during travels outside the state and abroad.

What Rajbhar Said

Reacting to CM Yogi's statement, Rajbhar said: 'The Chief Minister has said it correctly. Rahul Gandhi's statements come in two ways. On the one hand, when he stays in India, he puts India itself in the dock, and on the other hand, when he wins elections through the Election Commission, he puts the Election Commission itself in the dock.'

The minister's remarks were direct and pointed, framing Gandhi's conduct as a pattern of institutional criticism that, in the ruling coalition's view, damages India's credibility both domestically and internationally.

CM Yogi's Original Remarks

The chain of political statements was set off by CM Yogi Adityanath at a gathering marking the 222nd birth anniversary of Avadh Kesari Rana Beni Madhav Baksh Singh — an icon of the First War of Independence of 1857. Yogi used the occasion to launch a pointed critique of the Congress leader.

'Rahul Gandhi goes outside Uttar Pradesh and defames and insults the State and goes outside India to insult the country. The Indian Army fights enemies on the borders, while Rahul Gandhi asks soldiers for proof. His party, Congress, has questioned the existence of Lord Ram in Ayodhya,' CM Yogi said.

The remarks touched on several flashpoints — Gandhi's overseas statements, his party's position on the Indian Army, and the Congress's historical stance on the Ram temple in Ayodhya — all of which have been recurring themes in Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) political messaging.

Rajbhar Targets Samajwadi Party

Rajbhar also turned his attention to Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav, dismissing the opposition party's political preparations with characteristic bluntness.

'The Samajwadi Party should stop making preparations in this lifetime and talk about the next. Where is the fight in this lifetime? ... There is no meaning to their statement,' Rajbhar said.
