Agartala, Feb 1 (NationPress) In a bid to ensure robust security, India's Border Security Force (BSF) has been working in close collaboration with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), executing approximately 80 coordinated patrols along the India-Bangladesh border in recent weeks, officials reported on Saturday.
A spokesperson for the BSF stated that both border enforcement agencies have held numerous coordination meetings at different levels along the 856-km international boundary with Tripura.
Furthermore, over 40 village coordination meetings have been conducted by BSF battalions in border regions to address the needs and concerns of the local populace, he added.
The BSF's Tripura frontier has increased its vigilance and stepped up its control activities along the India-Bangladesh border.
Since January 26, BSF personnel have successfully intercepted several infiltration and exfiltration attempts, as well as trans-border smuggling and other criminal activities.
According to the spokesperson, during various independent and joint operations, the BSF apprehended 14 Bangladeshi nationals and two Indian touts.
Moreover, a substantial amount of contraband, including narcotics, sugar, cattle, and other illegal goods valued at Rs 2.5 crore, has been seized.
In collaboration with other agencies, the BSF conducted a significant ganja destruction initiative, eradicating over one lakh mature plants illegally grown across approximately 60 acres of land.
The spokesperson emphasized that the BSF is dedicated not only to maintaining a heightened state of alertness along the International Border but also to supporting the vision of a Drug-Free Society.
Tripura is bordered by Bangladesh on three sides, with certain areas still unfenced due to local land disputes and demarcation issues.
Last year, the BSF arrested 55 Rohingyas, 620 Bangladeshi nationals, and 260 Indian nationals, including human traffickers, through various operations.
Following the unrest in Bangladesh that began in June-July, the BSF escalated its 24/7 vigilance to deter cross-border movement, infiltration, and numerous criminal activities.
