Both AAP and Centre Share Blame for Agriculture Crisis: Akali Dal

Chandigarh, Jan 7 (NationPress) The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) declared that the Union government and the AAP government in Punjab bear equal responsibility for the worsening agricultural crisis in the nation. They also called on both administrations to interact with farmers and to do everything within their power to preserve the life of farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal.

In a statement, SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema expressed his disbelief that, despite the Supreme Court overseeing the hunger strike of the fasting leader on a near-daily basis, both the Union and state governments have resorted to a blame game and political maneuvering.

“There are attempts to polarize the entire situation, which is both condemnable and could pose risks for a border state like Punjab,” Cheema remarked. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take initiative and foster an environment conducive to ending Dallewal’s fast.

“To achieve this, the Prime Minister must announce the guarantee of a minimum support price (MSP) without delay. This aligns with the commitment made to the citizens when the Prime Minister repealed the three contentious agricultural laws that concluded the Kisan Andolan,” he added.

He also noted that the Centre should withdraw the proposed agriculture policy, as farmers believe that many provisions from the three previous agricultural laws are being reintroduced surreptitiously in the new policy.

“Once this policy is rescinded, sincere discussions can commence with all stakeholders to formulate future agricultural policies,” he emphasized.

Cheema asserted that these actions would significantly alleviate the factors contributing to the ongoing farmers’ unrest and criticized Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for his failure to address the current crisis.

“Even now, it’s not too late. The Chief Minister must urgently reach out to the Prime Minister and impress upon him the necessity of taking actions to safeguard the life of the fasting farmer leader, whose health is critically endangered,” he concluded.
