New Delhi, Sep 14 (NationPress) Aishanya Dwivedi, the spouse of Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi, has issued a passionate plea to boycott the upcoming cricket match between India and Pakistan in the Asia Cup, scheduled for this Sunday. She urged cricket enthusiasts and citizens to refrain from watching the match, even on television.
Left heartbroken after her husband was brutally murdered by terrorists in Pahalgam on April 22 this year, just two months post their marriage, Aishanya Dwivedi expressed her anguish.
Speaking to IANS, she emphasized, “This is not just our protest. It represents the 26 families who lost their beloved ones in the Pahalgam attack. This is a voice for every family who has seen their sons and brothers slaughtered in this incident.”
It is significant that India and Pakistan are set to face off for the first time since the tragic events of April 22. The match has ignited considerable controversy and provoked strong opposition, given the tense relations between the two nations following the horrific terror attack.
While the government has adopted a stringent position against any bilateral relations with Pakistan, it has allowed the multi-nation tournament, attributing its decision to certain ‘compulsions’.
Aishanya further stated, "I am actively voicing my concerns on social media. So far, no one has approached me to say I am wrong. Everyone stands with me, and many are also boycotting this match."
Criticizing the cricketing organization, she noted that if a regular citizen can grasp the public sentiment, she finds it perplexing why the BCCI and the players are eager to engage in a match against Pakistan.
“They seem to have forgotten that the terrorists from Pakistan have taken the lives of their own countrymen. They disregard the sacrifices of our soldiers who bravely fought against Pakistan,” she remarked.
She added, “No one has forced these players to participate. They have chosen to do so voluntarily; they should have taken a stand. It appears that the Indian players and the BCCI do not perceive terrorism as a national concern. Kuldeep Yadav, also from Kanpur, has agreed to play; he could have declined.”
Shubham's father, Sanjay Dwivedi, also expressed discontent with the BCCI and the players’ actions.
He stated, “Since I learned about the match between India and Pakistan, I have been voicing my opposition. Our country’s players are competing with a nation that has killed innocent citizens. It is truly disheartening.”
“This match should be boycotted. The BCCI shows no regard for the citizens of the country. The board must sever ties with an enemy nation,” he added.
