Mumbai, Jan 26 (NationPress) On the occasion of Republic Day, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the northbound carriageway of the bridge that connects the Bandra Worli Sea Link with the Dharmaveer Swarajyarakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Mumbai Coastal Road.

Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister and Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde, Information Technology Minister Ashish Shelar, and Skill Development Minister Mangalprabhat Lodha, CM Fadnavis emphasized that the coastal road project will significantly reduce travel time and fuel consumption for Mumbaikars, while also contributing to pollution reduction.

The Chief Minister noted that 94 percent of the Mumbai coastal road work has been completed, and today’s inauguration included the northern section featuring four interchange arms—three at Worli and one at Haji Ali.

The northern section of the bowstring bridge and the four new interchange arms will be accessible to vehicles starting January 27, from 7 a.m. to midnight daily. This includes connections from Marine Drive to Prabhadevi, Marine Drive to Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk, and the arm linking the sea bridge from Bindumadhav Thackeray Chowk towards Bandra.

Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed optimism that the northern arm will greatly enhance the daily lives of Mumbaikars and commended the world-class technical execution of the coastal road.

The BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation reported that the southern arm from Worli to Marine Drive was inaugurated on March 11, 2024. The northern section connecting Marine Drive and Haji Ali opened on June 11 last year, and the final 3.5 km segment between Haji Ali and Worli became operational on July 11, 2024.

From March 12 to December 31, 2024, approximately 50 lakh vehicles have utilized the coastal road, averaging 18,000 to 20,000 vehicles daily. BMC sources mentioned that three interchange arms—two from Worli to Bandra, one to Marine Drive, and one at Haji Ali—are yet to be opened to traffic. Additionally, the project will create nearly 70 hectares of green space.

To enhance the quality of life for Mumbaikars, facilities such as cycle tracks, public parks, jogging tracks, and open auditoriums are being developed within the green spaces. This initiative aims to provide new recreational opportunities for residents.

Moreover, a sea protection wall is planned to combat erosion and safeguard the project from high sea waves. The estimated cost of the Mumbai Coastal Road project is Rs 13,983 crore.
