Chandigarh, May 8 (NationPress) The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully neutralised a Pakistani intruder in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector, as confirmed by officials on Thursday.
The unidentified intruder was shot down during the early hours of Thursday while attempting to cross the International Border between India and Pakistan.
The intruder was detected while trying to infiltrate near Gate No. 207/1, close to the Lakha Singh Wala BSF post.
Emergency Medical Officer Manpreet Singh, stationed in Ferozepur at a government hospital, stated, “The body of an unknown individual has been brought to our facility by the police.”
In response to the incident, the civil administration has enforced a blackout in Gurdaspur district, bordering Pakistan, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. as a precautionary measure, starting Thursday.
The blackout will remain in effect until further notice, according to a government directive. Only jails and hospitals will be permitted lighting, but they must cover their windows, the order specified.
Earlier, reports emerged from at least three villages in Punjab’s Amritsar district, near the India-Pakistan border, regarding the discovery of missile fragments, according to police on Thursday. Fortunately, there were no reports of any explosion.
“There was no explosion or impact from an explosion,” stated Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar rural) Maninder Singh, adding, “The Army has been notified about the findings.”
The police are still investigating whether the missile parts belong to Indian or Pakistani origin. Forensic teams have arrived to examine the sites.
Locals discovered the missile parts in agricultural fields in Jethuwal, Dudhala, and Pandher villages in Amritsar district and promptly informed the authorities.
Residents in Amritsar city reported hearing six blast-like sounds within a span of seven minutes between 1:02 a.m. and 1:09 a.m. on Thursday, during the blackout.
Deputy Commissioner Sakshi Sawhney reassured the public, stating, “We are taking precautions. There is no cause for alarm.”
Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Bhullar noted that there was a surge of panic on social media due to unverified reports of explosions.
Defence analysts speculate that Pakistan may have launched these missiles, but India’s anti-missile systems could have intercepted them in the air.
Amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, some residents in border villages of Punjab have begun relocating to safer areas.
Villagers in Amritsar, Ferozepur, Gurdaspur, and Tarn Taran districts near the International Border have started moving their belongings, despite the absence of any official evacuation orders from the BSF, Indian Army, or local civil authorities.
Notably, after the armed forces executed a series of targeted strikes against terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan in retaliation for the deaths of 26 individuals in Pahalgam, the Punjab government suspended all public events on Wednesday.
Additionally, the leave of all Punjab Police personnel has been cancelled.
AAP Punjab chief Aman Arora affirmed that the state government and all three crore Punjabis stand united with the Indian Army.
He asserted that the Punjab Police, as the “second line of defence,” is fully prepared.
“The police force of the state will collaborate with the Indian Army in every confrontation to deliver a decisive response to any Pakistani aggression,” he declared.
Punjab shares a substantial 532-km-long border with Pakistan, making the role of the Punjab government and its security and law enforcement agencies critical during any military tensions.
The Punjab Police are fully supporting the Indian Army and working together on future strategies.
The state government has also urged the people of Punjab to strictly follow all government orders and guidelines to ensure public safety.
