Mumbai, July 14 (NationPress) The Ministry of Railways announced a significant achievement in the bullet train initiative by inaugurating the initial segment of the 21-km undersea tunnel that connects BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex) and Thane.
The bullet train project has recently reached a pivotal milestone, with the completion of 310 km of viaduct construction.
"Rapid progress is being made in track laying, the erection of overhead electrical systems, station construction, and bridge building. The work pace in Maharashtra has notably accelerated. Concurrently, the procurement of operational and control systems is also advancing smoothly," stated the ministry.
Highlighting the strategic alliance between Japan and India, the Japanese government is set to introduce E10 Shinkansen trains for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet train venture. It is significant that the E10 will debut simultaneously in both India and Japan, as noted.
The entire 508-km corridor is being constructed using Japanese Shinkansen technology, which will set new standards for speed, safety, and reliability, showcasing the strong strategic and technological partnership between India and Japan.
Civil engineering works are progressing swiftly along the corridor. Approximately 310 km of the viaduct has been completed. Fifteen river bridges have been finalized, with four in advanced stages of construction. Of the 12 stations, five are completed, and three are nearing completion.
“The BKC station is an engineering wonder. Positioned 32.5 m below ground, its foundation is engineered to support a 95-meter structure above,” added the ministry.
The success of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project lays the groundwork for forthcoming bullet train corridors in India, with additional routes actively under consideration.
