Mumbai, July 14 (NationPress) Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan announced in the Maharashtra Assembly on Monday that the government has directed all agencies to ensure the prompt and transparent completion of relief and rehabilitation efforts for individuals affected by severe rainfall and flooding in the Nagpur and Amravati divisions of Vidarbha.
The minister stated that immediate actions have been implemented by the state government due to the extensive loss of life, property, and financial ruin caused by this natural calamity.
As per the government resolution dated May 30, 2025, relief funds have been allocated at the district level to assist residents whose homes have been destroyed.
Additionally, the government resolution dated July 28, 2023 has extended the deadline for distributing relief to household items, clothing, stallholders, and shopkeepers.
The District Collectors have been empowered to make all decisions related to disaster relief distribution.
Minister Mahajan reported that the heavy rains resulted in flooding across the districts of Nagpur, Wardha, Gondia, Bhandara, Gadchiroli, and Chandrapur, leading to the deaths of 7 citizens, injuries to 4, and the loss of 17 large and 10 small animals.
Furthermore, 1,927 homes were partially damaged, 40 homes were completely destroyed, 209 cowsheds were affected, and 715 citizens were relocated to safer areas.
More than 20,854 hectares of farmland with crops were impacted, affecting 29,920 farmers. The damage assessment process is currently ongoing.
In the Amravati division, the minister noted similar effects, including one death, one injury, 180 partially damaged houses, 9 homes that completely collapsed, and the loss of 4 animals. Additionally, 3,411 hectares of agricultural land were affected.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Urban Development, Madhuri Misal, informed the Assembly that the entire tender process associated with solid waste management for the Pune Municipal Corporation has been annulled due to rates being 5 to 7 percent higher than expected. However, she assured that no financial loss has occurred.
In response to a query from BJP member Bhimrao Tapkir, Minister Misal stated that the government has instructed the Pune Municipal Corporation to conduct an investigation into the tender process and take necessary actions.
“Instructions will also be provided to the Municipal Corporation regarding the recovery of administrative costs incurred during the tender process,” she said, inviting members to share any relevant information or concerns regarding specific tenders.
She emphasized that appropriate actions would follow a thorough investigation of the relevant cases.
