New Delhi, Sep 24 (NationPress) The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has granted approval for the expansion of the Bakhtiyarpur–Rajgir–Tilaiya single railway line section, which spans 104 kilometers in Bihar, with a substantial investment of Rs 2,192 crore.

This development, which encompasses four districts in Bihar, aims to enhance rail connectivity to key destinations including Rajgir (home to the Shanti Stupa), Nalanda, and Pawapuri, thus attracting pilgrims and tourists from all over the nation. The multi-tracking initiative will improve connectivity for approximately 1,434 villages and benefit around 13.46 lakh residents, including those in the two aspirational districts of Gaya and Nawada, as per an official announcement.

This railway line serves a crucial role in the transportation of goods like coal, cement, clinker, and fly ash. The capacity enhancement is expected to result in an increase in freight traffic by about 26 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum).

As a sustainable and energy-efficient mode of transport, the railways will contribute significantly towards achieving climate objectives and reducing the logistics costs in the country. This project is anticipated to cut costly oil imports by 5 crore litres, yielding savings in foreign exchange.

Moreover, it is projected that CO2 emissions will decrease by 24 crore kgs, equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting 1 crore trees, according to the statement.

The enhanced capacity of the rail line is set to boost mobility, ensuring improved efficiency and reliability of services for Indian Railways. The multi-tracking plan will facilitate smoother operations and alleviate congestion, which is essential for infrastructural advancement in the busiest segments of Indian Railways.

This project aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a New India, fostering an environment where regional residents can become Atmanirbhar (self-reliant) through comprehensive development that enhances employment prospects.

Planned under the PM-Gati Shakti National Master Plan, the project emphasizes improved multi-modal connectivity and logistics efficiency through integrated planning and stakeholder engagement. This initiative aims to ensure seamless transport for people, goods, and services, as stated.
