Cabinet Approves Rs 6,230 Crore Rithala-Kundli Corridor for Delhi Metro

New Delhi, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Union Cabinet, presided over by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially sanctioned the Rithala-Narela-Nathupur (Kundli) corridor as part of the Delhi Metro's Phase-IV initiative, with a financial commitment of Rs 6,230 crore.
This corridor, spanning 26.463 km, is set to significantly improve connectivity between Delhi and the adjacent state of Haryana. The projected completion timeframe is four years from the date of approval, as stated by the Cabinet.
The funding for the completion will be managed by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Limited (DMRC) through the existing 50:50 Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) established between the central government and the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).
As noted in a Cabinet document, this metro line will serve as an extension of the currently operational Shaheed Sthal (New Bus Adda)-Rithala (Red Line) corridor, enhancing connectivity in the northwestern sections of the national capital, including Narela, Bawana, and parts of Rohini.
The entire corridor will feature 21 stations, all of which will be elevated. This project marks the fourth extension of the Delhi Metro into Haryana, which currently includes services to Gurugram, Ballabhgarh, and Bahadurgarh.
Upon completion, the Rithala-Narela-Nathupur corridor will link the Shaheed Sthal New Bus Adda station in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh with Nathupur in Haryana via Delhi, greatly enhancing connectivity across the entire National Capital Region.
The Cabinet highlighted that this extension of the Red Line is expected to alleviate road congestion, thereby contributing to a reduction in pollution caused by vehicular traffic.
Furthermore, according to the Cabinet, the construction of Phase-IV (3 Priority Corridors), which covers a total of 65.202 km and includes 45 stations, is currently in progress, with over 56 percent of the construction already completed.
The Phase-IV (3 Priority) corridors are anticipated to be completed in stages by March 2026. Additionally, two further corridors, spanning 20.762 kilometres, have been approved and are currently in the pre-tendering stage.
The Delhi Metro presently serves an average of 64 lakh passenger journeys, with the highest passenger count recorded at 78.67 lakh on November 18.
