New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) An elderly Sikh couple was strangled by their caregiver, who had been hired just three days earlier, in the Kohat Enclave area of Northwest Delhi, as reported by a police official on Tuesday.

The caregiver, who is believed to have committed this horrific double murder for the purpose of stealing valuables, has since fled the scene.

Mohinder Singh, who suffered from Parkinson’s disease, and his wife, Diljit Kaur, both approximately 70 years of age, were discovered strangled with a rubber water pipe in two separate rooms on the second floor of their ransacked home in the gated community, according to an official.

CCTV footage from the colony captured the attendant exiting the house at 5:30 a.m. with a backpack, which police suspect contained the stolen valuables and cash.

The couple's family was well-off, as they were engaged in the garments business, a relative stated.

It was noted that the gold bangles that Diljit Kaur always wore were missing, and there were visible injury marks on her head.

The bodies were discovered around 10 a.m. on Tuesday by the couple’s daughter-in-law, who resides in a nearby building, after she went to check on them at the behest of their driver, who had reported that no one was answering the door despite his repeated attempts to ring the bell, police said.

The state of the bodies indicates that the murders might have occurred on Sunday night, according to a family member.

Chanpreet Singh, the couple’s son, mentioned that they had recently employed a new night attendant for his father.

“The attendant was recommended by a previous caregiver from Maharaja Agrasen Hospital, who had performed duties two months prior before taking a break,” he explained.

Police reported that several almirahs in the house were found broken into, and some bags had also been slashed open.

“Family members are still evaluating the total value of the stolen items,” an official added.

Mohinder Singh’s brother noted that the attendant used to sleep in the same room as his brother, while his sister-in-law slept in a different room.

“We observed that the attendant’s bed was located in my brother’s room, suggesting that the incident likely occurred after everyone had gone to sleep,” he noted, expressing concerns over the declining security in Delhi.
